One of America’s most prestigious retail destinations, Fifth Avenue is a gleaming strip of high-end boutiques slicing through the heart of Manhattan. Whether window shopping or splashing cash, there’s no denying that Fifth Avenue is one of the most expensive streets on the planet. As well as being a fashion mecca, Fifth Avenue is also home to some of New York’s most iconic sites.
The legendary Empire State Building towers above the street, accompanied by the Rockefeller Centre, the MET, the Flatiron Building and the Guggenheim Museum. The Upper East Side portion is brimming with culture and is colloquially known as Museum Mile for a good reason.
As a major thoroughfare, Fifth Avenue stretches for 10 kilometres through the borough of Manhattan. It’s bordered by West 143rd in Harlem and Washington Square in Greenwich Village. Public transport access is easy, with subway stations dotting the entire stretch. Parts of Fifth Avenue are also bicycle friendly, with a particularly scenic route flanking Central Park.
Synonymous with wealth, Fifth Avenue has always been a hotspot for New York’s elite. Luxe mansions line the section spanning from 59th Street and 96th Street, which has been dubbed Millionaire's Row. Throughout the year, Fifth Avenue serves as a popular route for a host of New York’s celebratory parades.
