Where to stay in Key West

About Key West

Famed for its Caribbean-style architecture, vibrant coral reefs and famous literary residents, Key West marks Florida’s southernmost point. It forms part of the Florida Keys archipelago and is known for its historic attractions and mesmerising sunsets.

Things to do

Duval Street is the main strip in Key West, packed with restaurants, boutiques and many of the city’s iconic tourist sights. It’s here that the Oldest House and Garden Museum is located, having been built in 1829 and featuring period furnishings and family portraits of its former owner, Francis B. Watlington.

The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is just a short walk away, set within his former Spanish Colonial mansion. Witness the writer’s studio where he composed some of his most famous works and meet the six and seven-toed felines which descended from Hemingway’s cats.

At the northwestern end of Duval Street is the old warehouse district of Mallory Docks which has been transformed into a lively urban space, with nightly performance artists and colourful sunset views. The Key West Aquarium is also found here, the perfect place to get up close to some of the local marine life in its “touch tanks” or watch while the resident sharks are being fed.

If you want to tick a landmark off our list, then don’t miss having your photograph taken at the southernmost point of continental United States at the corner of South and Whitehead streets. You can also follow in the footsteps of U.S. Presidents Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy at their former vacation retreat which is now known as the Little White House.

Getting around

The Key West International Airport is connected to Miami by frequent bus services. The city is easy to explore on foot or bicycle, while there are also tram tours that will get you to and from the major sights.
