I would not recommend staying at Echo Basin Ranch. First, it is not a "dude ranch," but a run down and poorly maintained RV park. Everything (or nearly everything) is broken, and if it weren't for the work campers, what few things that do work wouldn't. The restaurant is never open, the staff is AWOL (unless you count the work campers who are slaving around the place to get the buildings and weeds under control) and nothing is as it seems on the Echo Basin Website (which hasn't been updated in years). After reading reviews, I now realize that the pool heater has been broken for several years (when it is open at all), the bathrooms and cabins are regularly not clean or sanitary (as was in my experience), and the staff is often AWOL. As for the amenities as they stand today, there is no driving range (but lots of astro-turf randomly arranged about the grounds), no 9 hole putting green, the basketball hoop is on the ground (with broken glass all over the court), the volleyball net is hanging by a thread, there are no horseshoe pits I can find (but there is a sad pile of dirt for kids to use as a "sandbox") the "wifi" access is in the musty and dusty "pro shop" (when it works, that is), the pool is frigid, the "hot" tub is around 99 degrees (now that it finally opened--and has the weakest "jets" I have ever felt), the weeds have overtaken the grass (and just about everything else) and where there is grass it desperately needs some mowing, the cabins are dank and in disrepair, the "restaurant" is never open, the office is almost always shut and dark, and the only people who seem to care about any of this are the work campers who have no power to do anything about it. The saddest part is that you can see that this place was once very nice, and it even still has potential. The location is great and the views are wonderful. However, it is clear that the management or owner (or whoever is in charge) has lost interest and could care less about upkeep, guest satisfaction, or anything else having to do with Echo Basin "Ranch." (if you can call four horses that nobody can ride a "ranch.") It is shame, but I definitely discourage anyone from coming to stay here until new ownership takes over (it is for sale, if you are interested) or someone who has some control over the place starts to care about it. It is just too bad....

Echo Basin is the perfect destination for anyone who loves: long sleepless nights on uncomfortable beds, dirty floors and bathrooms, no toilet paper or clean towels, cold showers, salty drinking water, and a lack of staff to assist you. If this sounds like your ideal vacation spot I suggest you bring: an air mattress, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, extra towels, bottled water, a cell phone, and plenty of card games. Additionally, if you will be participating in an event that requires dress clothes make sure to haul your own ironing board and iron because this staff won’t provide you with one.

On April 23, 2008 (83 days prior to arrival) I reserved a cabin for 5 days starting July 16th and was charged $313.42 deposit. On April 28, 2008 (78 days prior to arrival) I called to cancel and was told that they would cancel but still charge $313.42. I said I was happy to pay the $50.00 cancellation fee. They have refused and are charging me $313.42 for NO SERVICE! BE VERY CAREFUL!!!
