We had a wonderful stay; our room overlooked the lake - was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We stayed for 4 nights and consistently had good service from ALL staff members. We ate several meals in the restaurant, all of which were incredible from service to quality of food. Would stay again in a heart beat. Located on few blocks from the Art Institute and in the spring then the walks on the lake front would be wonderful. The hotel and staff are a statement of class and character.

My girlfriend and I came in from NYC and stayed here for Lollapalooza '08. Great location, great service, great staff. We've stayed at classier places and worse places, but generally aren't to picky. This is an older hotel, but our room was huge (definitly worth the lake view upgrade), the bar was big, room service was great and overall we had a great stay and will probably be back for Lolla next year.

I loved the location of the hotel. I had read mixed reviews about the hotel, but my experience was very good. Our room was small, but very clean. Service was good. Location was great. All in all we had a great experience for a great price.

I had read some poor online reviews of this hotel before deciding to stay there myself. I found the standards of the hotel to be excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. And you could not wish for a better location to begin your exploration of fabulous downtown Chicago. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. I had a great stay there. Declan - UK

Staying at the Congress Plaza Hotel was one of the best travel experiences of my life. Sadly, I only stayed in the hotel for one night but I will be staying there anytime I go to Chicago from now on. The staff were helpful, friendly and full of knowledge of the rich and diverse history of the beautiful hotel. Two different security guards offered to take us on a tour of the property and showed us the beautiful ballrooms and different areas of the hotel. They even showed us some of the closed off spaces and told us some fun and interesting ghost stories about the place. Our room was clean and spacious mixing old world style with new age accommodations. The reason I am writing this review is from doing some research and finding many negative reviews of the hotel which I believe are propaganda because of the on going strike. The reviews say the hotel is falling apart with rats and pests everywhere, with an unfriendly and unhelpful staff. I saw a lot of the hotel during my stay and did not notice any of this. I am not an architectural expert but I did not notice any disrepair in the hotel. If it is true that the hotel is falling apart to the point of condemnation someone needs to do something about it immediately. It would be a tragedy to lose another beautiful historic landmark that displays Chicago's fascinating and spectacular past.

a fine older building from the earlier 20th century with marvelous detail that is deserving of top notch room renovations. current furnishings seem to have come from a second hand store, the window treatments are seriously outdated, and the bathroom "upgrades" were at best a second rate effort. on the plus side, the upper floors on the front side of the building yield a thoroughly satisfiying view overlooking grant park and out into the lake.

Great location and fine room. Felt safe wherever we went. Parking around the corner and tour and business travel right from the front door. Dined at the restaurant one night. Pricey but good food and service.

Nice hotel but has seen better days. Water was warm (not hot), iron didn't work, no WiFi. Good location.

This hotel was located in a great spot on Michigan Ave, we were close to everything. We arrived at 8:30 am thinking we would have to check our bags and wait to check into the room until check-in at 3 pm, but our room was ready and we were able to check-in early! The room was clean and nicely furnished. The layout of the room was great; we had a king bed and a full bed conjoined by a hallway that the bathroom was on; it was almost as though we had 2 seperate rooms. There was some paint chipping around the door frames of the closets and bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. The only issue we had was that the room smelled strongly of fresh plaster, almost to the point of giving us headaches. All staff were friendly and gave us ideas for tourist activities. I would definately stay here again. P.S if you visit the hotel bar, don't play songs on the juke box, it sometimes eats your money.

All other reviews pretty much sum up the look of the rooms, aged but still functional. I was on the top floor (14th) and the A/C worked fine. My view of Buckingham fountain was EXCELLENT. Make sure if your there on a weekend if any events going on late at night in the park may interrupt your sleep, still worth the view though. Check-in/out was efficient. The inside door staff were helpful and there was a useful baggage check if you had to check out but wanted to hang around a bit and a more secure check for expensive items like laptops with security. The outdoor staff were not helpful, I pulled up in my car and they basically told me to get my car out of there, no information on how to check in. The staff in the parking area around back were less helpful. they were practically yelling at me because of where I pulled my car in because of their terrible directions. And then on top of that, the hotel charges 27 per day to park at their hotel. Too steep. Another fee that shouldn't be charged is internet access, a cheap service for 10 per day.

We were across the street from Taste of Chicago. The room we were given for myself, my wife and my daughter was excellent. We were given a two bedroom suite that was completely unexpected. The view was great. It was unbelievable.

I like the historic value of the building. The decorating in the room, not cozy.

Stayed at the Congress for a wedding, but wouldn't go back. Not much to do at the hotel itself. Good location to stroll around downtown. No heat or air conditioning controls, just fan controls. Most of the staff was friendly and curteous. Parking was a little expensive. Got overcharged for the room, but caught the mistake and had a credit put back on my card. For the price you pay and what you get in return, I would look elsewhere - very disappointed!

The hotel is very dated nice for a older hotel. But no real extras the food was very costly. for 15 min of internet.

Easy checkin and checkout, clean, beautiful rooms (I had a view of the lake and Grant Park), close to the L, close to the lakeshore. Check out Yolk down the street for breakfast!
