The building is obviously impressive and the entrance and lobby are grand (as one would expect). Our room was nice, with a great view. The problem was the catering that was available to us. We needed to eat at around 8.30. One restaurant was closing at 9 and the other, "The Western Restaurant", was a buffet, supposedly western. It was standard Japanese and Chinese fare, nothing western. After dinner the coffee was from a buffet jug and the tea was make your own - from a Lipton's teabag. Lipton's is basically the most basic drinkable black tea. I drink it here because it's available in 7-11, not because it's good. Much better is available in Taipei. I had coffee and asked for cream and was given a tub of creamer as in McDonald's or Subway! The coffee in the room was Mr Brown's 3-in-1 (instant, sweet, 'milky', pseudo-coffee).

I could hear people walking or speaking on the hall way from the room. If you have light sleeping problems, better to choose the room with the views.

View & balcony (if you have a room with view), spacious clean room, swimming pool, wonderful hall. Far from city center, prices of the breakfast and business center (very expensive internet access), average service for the price.

They had just a full-sized bed versus the King-sized bed. The hotel itself is ancient, and looked every bit its 40 years. It's got terribe location vs. just about any other option in Taipei. You had to take a shuttle that only left once every 15 minutes just to get to the nearest MRT station. I saw quite decent and much larger city-view rooms. I would never come back to this hotel again.

The only Chinese style hotel in the world! When you enter, you feel like you're in a Chinese palace and they treat you like a emperor! Old arcade shops. Staying in this hotel is an experience you will not have anywhere else in the WORLD! Once you enter, the place is like a grand entrance into a Chinese palace. I've traveled to over 20 countries and this is the only hotel with a Chinese landscape. The room reflects the Chinese theme and the view of Taipei is breath taking. Having a cup of coffee while watching sunrise is a picture that is priceless. The overall experience was fantastic. If you ever visit Taipei, you have to stay at the Grand Hotel just for the experience.

Please do not stay at this hotel! I stayed in a regular Grand twin room. The hotel is extremely old. Horrible smell in room. I had to ask for 2 air fresheners. There are no windows in the Grand twin rooms. The air quality in the hotel is horrible. We were constantly sneezing during our stay. The walls have cracks in them and the bathroom has moldy residue. I DO NOT recommend staying in this hotel AT ALL. For about the same price, you can stay at the Grand Hyatt-1000 times better. Honestly.

It seems the rooms are not good in sound-proof. I can clearly hear sounds made in the neiboring rooms at night.

I found the Grand Hotel Taipei to be a beautiful hotel whose architecture and lobby truly gave one a taste of being in China. While the economy rooms were a bit small, it didn't matter if, as was the case for me, it were just a place to lay your head for the night while touring around the city. The more expensive view rooms were nicer and would have been worth the upgrade if I had spent more time at the hotel. While the location initially seemed to be a problem, once I discovered the shuttle bus to the MRT I found it to be quite convenient and a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of being in town.
