She was the daughter of Jacob Abraham Uitenhage de Mist, the Dutch statesman who officially received the colony back from the British; Augusta and her father passed within a few metres of the current house in 1803 while traveling the colony together. The guest house, surrounded by extensive gardens, is located 2 blocks from the Drostdy Museum, which was the magistrate’s seat at the time of Augusta’s visit.
