Named in honour of Washington, D.C.’s first home rule mayor, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is a multipurpose venue in the heart of the city. It features a striking modern design of more than 200,000 square metres, which replaced the old Washington Convention Center in 2003.
Admire the towering glass walls and granite floors of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, then marvel at its ultra-modern interior. The space also holds the largest public art collection in the city (outside of a museum) and includes paintings, photography and sculptural pieces.
After visiting the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, browse the contemporary exhibits in the industrial-designed Long View Gallery or make the short walk south to the National Portrait Gallery. The convention centre is also within walking distance of the White House, Washington Monument and National Mall.
