The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere boasting thousands of species of unique deep-sea marine life. It is situated in Atlanta, Georgia, just north of Centennial Olympic Park. Five galleries encompass the living exhibitions including the Tropical Diver, Ocean Voyager, Cold Water Quest, River Scout and Dolphin Tales.
The Dolphin Tales Gallery is one of the most popular exhibits, housing a collection of bottlenose dolphins and an indoor stadium for public show purposes. The Southern Company River Scout takes visitors beneath a river enabling them to experience aquatic activity from an underwater perspective. Animals of the polar region are exhibited by the Georgia-Pacific Cold Water Quest, and there are also gargantuan tropical fish tanks for viewing in addition to a 4D movie attraction and recently opened Titanic exhibit.
The Georgia Aquarium is easily accessed by primary interstates, and there is plentiful parking on site. Public transportation to the area is serviced by the MARTA. The nearest stations to the aquarium are the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station, Civic Centre Station or Peachtree Centre Station.
The birth of the Georgia Aquarium involved a symbiotic partnership between visionary Bernard Marcus and founding president Jeff Swanagan. It is the only complex outside of Asia containing whale sharks in captivity.
