About Yorkshire and the Humber

Established as one of England’s nine official regions in 1994, Yorkshire and the Humber sprawls around the cities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. It encompasses the rugged Pennine Hills, extensive heather moorlands and dramatic chalk cliffs, as well as the Ouse River as it flows through the Humber Estuary into the North Sea.

Spend a day sightseeing in the lively city of Leeds, which sprawls around the River Aire. Admire the military artefacts on display at the Royal Armouries before visiting the restaurants and bars lining the trendy Call Lane. Just west of Leeds is the historic textile city of Bradford, home to the Bradford Industrial Museum and the National Science and Media Museum.

For a taste of Yorkshire and the Humber’s natural beauty, visit the North York Moors, which encompasses one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the United Kingdom. Ride the heritage steam railway for spectacular views and marvel at the Dracula-inspiring ruins of Whitby Abbey.
