Where to stay in Zadarska

About Zadarska

Centred around the historic coastal city of Zadar, Zadar County sprawls across more than 7,850 kilometres between northern Dalmatia and southeastern Lika. It’s dotted with charming towns, uninhabited islands and nature reserves that provide habitat for a variety of bird species and marine life.

Things to do in Zadarska

Whether you want to get lost in the centuries-old streets of Zadar or cruise between the islands of Kornati National Park, Zadar County offers something for all interests.

Sightsee in Zadar. Clustered with Roman and Venetian ruins, Zadar’s Old Town is a charming place to wander and surrounded by city walls featuring monumental gates. Marvel at the Byzantine architecture of the Church of St. Donatus and the Cathedral of St. Anastasia’s rose windows, then listen to the wave-created music of Zadar’s famous Sea Organ.

Island hop through Kornati National Park. Encompassing 147 islands in the Zadar Archipelago is Kornati National Park, which was established in 1980 to protect the region’s natural habitats and marine life. Join a guided cruise to discover the islands’ beautiful beaches and cliffside caves, as well as centuries-old ruins that include ancient farms and Roman villas.

Visit Telašćica Nature Park. Occupying a picture-perfect bay in the south-east of Dugi Otok, this deep inlet is surrounded by steep cliffs that rise up to 161 metres in height. You can relax on one of the idyllic beaches or swim in Lake Mir, which is renowned for its therapeutic saltwater.

Birdwatch on the shores of Lake Vrana. Nestled in a karst valley, Lake Vrana is the largest lake in Croatia and has been designated as an ornithological reserve. Keep your eyes peeled for black-headed buntings, common kingfishers and little egrets, as well as pygmy cormorants and purple herons.

Getting around Zadarska

Zadar Airport is the main aviation gateway to Zadar County and has flights to destinations across Europe. Regular trains connect from Zagreb to the Zadar railway station while buses travel throughout the county. Ferries travel between Zadar and islands throughout Northern Dalmatia and boats can be rented for exploring the Zadar Archipelago.
