Set around one of the oldest streets in North America, the Quartier Petit Champlain is nestled beneath a cliff at the base of Château Frontenac. It’s considered the most beautiful part of Old Quebec, home to atmospheric streets packed with one-of-a-kind boutiques and romantic restaurants.
Ride the funicular to the top of aptly-named Breakneck Stairs, which connect the upper and lower towns. Built in 1635, they are Quebec’s oldest set of stairs and offer beautiful views of Rue Petit Champlain’s historic architecture.
At the foot of the stairs is the Fresque du Petit-Champlain, a vibrant mural that depicts significant historical events that took place in this working-class waterfront neighbourhood. Learn about the battles between the French and British armies that took place in 1759 and the fires that have impacted the Quartier Petit Champlain since the beginnings of New France.
