About Southeast Portland

Once a gritty warehouse district, East Portland is now a vibrant neighbourhood packed full of charm, history and culture. Most of the action is centred around the East Portland Grand Avenue Historic District, encompassing more than 20 city blocks. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it’s lined with beautifully preserved buildings that now house a smorgasbord of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops.

There’s plenty to keep urban explorers entertained, with a string of fantastic comedy clubs and live music venues in the area. Distillery Row is a must for craft liquor lovers, lined with a handful of micro-distilleries brewing everything from barrel-aged bourbon to sour ale. For fun for the whole family, head to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

The neighbourhood sits on the east bank of the Willamette River, with easy access to the downtown core. Ride the Portland Streetcar or MAX Orange Line in around 10 minutes, or walk over one of the three bridges in less than 20 minutes. Drive to Portland International Airport in just 30 minutes, or ride public transport to the tarmac in less than an hour.

For adventurous travellers, head down to the waterfront and rent a boat or kayak from the dock near Hawthorne Bridge. It’s a great way to enjoy the Willamette River and check out Portland from an alternative angle.
