Cotai is a new tourism area of Macau, built on 5.2 square kilometres of reclaimed land between the islands of Coloane and Taipa. The resort was created as a major tourism, shopping, entertainment and is a gambling haven. Cotai is rapidly becoming the entertainment capital of Asia, with world-class malls, breath-taking shows and some of the best new casinos in the world located on the strip.
There are many wild and wonderful things to do in Cotai, and the shopping malls are a good place to begin a trip. T Galleria Macau and The Grand Canal Shoppes offer designer boutiques, salons and dining experiences travellers could dream of. A must visit for any family is the DreamWorks Experience, with everyone’s favourite Kung Fu Panda academy, a fabulous All-Star Parade and Meet and Greets with well-known animated characters. The House of Dancing Water is the world’s largest water show and the City of Dreams is Cotai’s entertainment hub, with exciting shows, a Vquarium, Bubble Fountain, and plenty of shopping, restaurants and casinos to choose from. There is an abundance of 24-hour casinos in Cotai, where visitors can try your hand at blackjack, roulette or simply tempt their luck on the slot machines. If all of the bright lights of the Cotai strip become too much, relax in the nature preserve, on the golf course or take a trip to the Taipa Houses Museum in downtown Macau.
It takes less than 19-minutes to reach Cotai from Macau, the traffic is organised and free flowing for such a small city. There is a good supply of taxis from the ferry terminals and airport and a superb public bus service. Most of the bus routes cross over onto the islands and they are reasonably priced. To navigate Cotai strip is easy, and takes around 45-minutes to walk from one end to the other.
Cotai began as a construction overflow project as Macau was becoming overcrowded. Word spread rapidly and investment to the area grew. An upwards of $50 billion dollars has been invested into Cotai, now deemed to become the next upcoming, world travel destination which will rival both Las Vegas and Macau.
