Located in Santa Fe’s bustling downtown core, the historic Santa Fe Plaza dates back to 1610, with the current buildings surrounding the public square as old as the early-1800s. Santa Fe Plaza showcases Spanish-American colonial architecture and styles and is a central meeting place in the city.
A visit to Santa Fe Plaza offers you the chance to learn more about New Mexico’s Spanish, Native American and Mexican cultures and traditions. You can often see live musicians and traditional art and dance, along with sellers showcasing handmade jewellery, clothing and trinkets. The Plaza centres around a tree-dotted park where you can relax on benches or admire the American Indian War Memorial.
Need some retail therapy? Santa Fe Plaza is encircled by boutique shops, including the Cowboys & Indians homewares store, Shiprock Santa Fe for Native American goods and Southwest-inspired jewellery at Malouf on the Plaza. Don’t forget to check out the historical exhibits at the Palace of the Governors or contemporary regional artwork at the New Mexico Museum of Art.
