About Regent's Park

Regents Park is a beautiful 395 acres Royal Park located in central London. The picturesque park is home to world renowned ZSL London Zoo. The park is home to the intricately designed Avenue Gardens, an open-air theatre and Primrose Hill which hosts spectacular views of the park and surrounding areas.

There is much to see and do in Regents Park. A wonderful place to begin an exploration of the park is at the ZSL London Zoo. Here, visitors can explore Land of the Lions, Penguin Beach, Gorilla Kingdom or become a keeper for the day. There are animal talks and demonstrations held which delight and entertain visitors. Regents Park is abundant with flower gardens and boulevards peppered with ornate fountains, sculptures and monuments. Avenue Gardens are perhaps the most famous, where visitors can enjoy colourful blooms and cascading lion fountains during any season. In summer months, the park showcases outdoor plays and theatre performances.Arrive early soak up the sunshine and bring a picnic. After discovering everything Regents Park has to offer, stroll to the British Museum, less than half an hour walk away. The museum has a vast collection of artefacts, sculptures and artwork from around the globe. For those interested in Ancient Egypt, there is a splendid display of tombs and mummies. There are rooms dedicated to Roman and Greek sculptures and relics, and a room telling the story of the Age of Enlightenment. Close by are the famed waxworks of Madame Tussauds, where celebrity favourites can be viewed and photographs taken. For shopping, visit the iconic flagship store of Selfridges on Oxford Street or take a walk down the Regents Canal to the independent boutiques and markets of the eclectic neighbourhood Camden Town.

Regents Park is easily accessible from all areas of central London. It is just 10 minutes’ walk from the railway and underground station of London Euston. Regents Park is on many city bus routes, and the underground stations of Great Portland Street, Regents Park, Baker Street and Mornington Crescent are a few minutes’ walk from the park’s entrances.

Originally known as Marylebone Park, the area of Regents Park was once a hunting ground for the Crown. When the lease expired in 1811, the entire area was redesigned by architect John Nash, who had a grand plan for palaces and detached villas for the Prince Regent. The zoo opened in 1828, originally to be used as a scientific study collection and the park itself in 1835 for two days a week for the general public. Today, it is one of London’s most popular parks with tourists coming from all over the world to stroll through the rose gardens and enjoy the quintessentially British atmosphere.
