Occupying a cape on the south-west coast of Halkidiki, Possidi is a picturesque fishing village and summer resort in Greece. It’s renowned for its postcard-perfect beaches and 19th-century lighthouse and is home to ancient ruins dating from the 8th century BC.
Throw down a towel and spend a day on the sands of Possidi Beach, which sprawls across a triangular cape surrounded by emerald waters. It’s an idyllic setting for sunbathing and swimming and is watched over by a whitewashed lighthouse that dates from 1863. Coincide your visit with International Lighthouse Day to tour the interior.
Just back from the beach, you can explore the ruins of Aegeopelagitika, an ancient sanctuary dedicated to the god of the sea, Poseidon. You can wander between its excavated walls and arches while keeping an eye out for the remains of centuries-old mosaic tiles.
Getting there
Possidi is around 25 minutes’ drive from Kallithea and 1.5 hours from Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia is just over an hour away and has flights to destinations across Europe. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting to Possidi and the village is small enough to explore on foot.
