Located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium boasts more than 17,000 marine animals covering around 750 species. You can discover a variety of themed areas within the aquarium, all of which showcase unique parts of the underwater world, including kelp forests, tropical rain forests, the Atlantic’s coral reefs and sea cliffs.
Venture into the Australia: Wild Extremes exhibit to get up close to native Australian marine animals, including freshwater crocodiles, barramundi and pig-nosed turtles. Afterwards, marvel in awe at the largetooth sawfish, nurse shark, sandbar shark and roughtail stingray in Shark Alley, before greeting five female and two male dolphins in Dolphin Discovery.
Love jellyfish? You can see a variety of species in Jellies Invasion, from the blue blubber jelly and Japanese sea nettle to the moon jelly and upside-down jelly. Living Seashore is the aquarium’s most interactive exhibit, letting you touch unique animals such as knobbed whelks, moon jellies and Atlantic stingrays.
Getting around National Aquarium Baltimore
The National Aquarium is about 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of Baltimore or the Shot Tower subway station and is fronted by the National Aquarium bus stop. You can also catch a ferry to the Aquarium dock or drive there in 25 minutes from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
