Things to do

Take advantage of Byron’s sunny weather with a swim or surf at Main Beach, which runs along the coastline in front of picnic areas, buskers and the Beach Hotel pub. There are more beaches to be enjoyed around Byron, including the secluded Wategos Beach and surfer-friendly Clarkes Beach.

These beaches can all be seen along the Cape Byron Walking Track, which leads you to the historic Cape Byron Lighthouse, built in 1901. Take a tour up to the top of the 23-metre-high lighthouse, before exploring the exhibits in the on-site museum. Love dramatic coastal views? Trek to Fisherman’s Lookout, which overlooks rugged cliffs reaching out into the Coral Sea.

If you’re craving some local culture, visit Byron Bay during the annual Byron Bay Bluesfest, a five-day music festival with local and international acts. Enjoy a cold beer at either the Byron Bay Brewery or Stone & Wood Brewing Company, both of which run informative brewery tours.

For a truly unique dining experience, head out to The Farm, where you can tour a fully-operational farm and eat fresh produce at the on-site restaurant, Three Blue Ducks. Afterwards, get up close with the local wildlife by kayaking past dolphins and whales, or enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the region from a hot-air balloon.

Getting around

Fly into Ballina Byron Gateway Airport or Lismore Regional Airport, both of which offer shuttle buses and taxis to Byron Bay. You can also rent a car and drive the Legendary Pacific Coast route to reach Byron. Local buses run throughout Byron Bay, but it’s also easy to walk and bicycle around.
