Šibenik’s steep, winding streets lure you in with secret alleys and hidden treasures. Its reputation as a historical town is highlighted by its impressive cathedral and fortress, but it also boasts modern theme parks, entertaining wildlife centers and beautiful landscapes in the nearby national park.
Things to do in Šibenik
If you’re taking the family to Šibenik, your first stop should be Solaris Aqua Park. The winding water slides and rain fortress will keep the kids entertained and there are Jacuzzis for the adults. Get acquainted with marine life at Šibenik Aquarium and its 20 tanks filled with tropical fish or stop by the gift shop and purchase sea-themed souvenirs made by local artists.
Want to learn about the local history? Etnoland theme park illustrates the traditional Croatian way of life in a group of classically-furnished stone houses, where you can take part in activities like pršut making and rakija distilling and listen to Dalmatian folk songs. Animal lovers can head to Sokolarski Raptor Centre, where you can learn about falcons and eagle owls and get a chance to feed these beautiful birds of prey.
Šibenik makes a great base to explore the bright turquoise pools and cascading waterfalls at Krka National Park. Hike up alongside the travertines for the best views, then cool off with a dip in the lower pools. The man-made sights are no less impressive, especially the remote Visovac Monastery, built on an island in the middle of a lake and accessible by boat.
Getting around Šibenik
The drive from Split Airport to Šibenik is less than an hour, while a bus takes less than two hours. The main sites in town are all within walking distance and there are buses and tours out to Krka National Park.
