Where to stay in Yosemite National Park

About Yosemite National Park

Renowned for massive granite cliffs, giant sequoia groves and waterfalls, Yosemite National Park lies within the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was one of the first parks created in the United States and is traversed by more than 1,000 kilometers of hiking trails.

Things to do

Visit Yosemite Valley, home to the Half Dome granite monolith and the vertical faced rock of El Capitan. Follow the walking trail to the impressive Yosemite Falls and visit the beautiful Bridalveil Fall, then enjoy famous vistas from the Tunnel View.

Explore the historic area of Wawona, home to the late-19th-century Wawona Hotel and the heritage buildings of the Pioneer Yosemite History Center. Visit the nearby Mariposa Grove, which features the largest concentration of giant sequoias in Yosemite.

One of the most scenic drives in Yosemite is between Crane Flat and Tuolumne Meadows along the banks of the Tuolumne River. It takes you past flowering meadows and picture-perfect lakes, backed by the national park’s towering peaks.

If you want to escape the crowds of Yosemite Valley, head to Hetch Hetchy Valley, which offers outstanding scenery along its walking trails. This glacial-cut landscape is home to the Wapama and Tueeulala Falls, which is particularly impressive during the spring months.

Getting around

Fresno-Yosemite International is the closest airport to Yosemite, around 90 minutes’ drive south. Public buses travel into Yosemite Valley from nearby towns, although having your own vehicle is best for exploring other areas of the park.
