Where to stay near Stonehenge

About Stonehenge

Visit at sunrise or sunset for a spectacular vision of Stonehenge, Europe’s most famous prehistoric monument and an ancient wonder of the world. The unique stone circle was built in the late-Neolithic period, around 4,500 years ago. While historians and archaeologists have puzzled over the monument for many centuries, it’s believed to be a prehistoric burial ground.

Explore the ancient landscape on foot before stepping inside the Neolithic Houses to discover artifacts and tools used by our Neolithic ancestors. Discover how the houses were built using local materials and watch volunteers demonstrate ancient skills, such as flint knapping, rope making and grain grinding.

Don’t miss the Stonehenge Exhibition, an audio-visual experience and world-class museum showcasing over 250 archaeological treasures ranging from pottery and jewelry to ancient human bones. Don’t forget to explore the vast ancient landscape around Stonehenge, home to hundreds of prehistoric monuments.
