A classic harbour town on the south coast of Turkey, Side retains its Old Town persona while embracing modern culture in its trendy boutiques, water sports and cocktail bars. Side also boasts a bustling beach promenade, golden beaches and historical architecture.

Things to do

Renowned as a getaway spot for Antony and Cleopatra, Side preserves its ancient Old Town centre and Roman ruins. Stroll the cobblestone streets and visit the 2,000-year-old Temple of Apollo at sunset or watch a concert at the open-air amphitheatre. To learn about the history of the town, stop by Side Museum, located inside a renovated Roman bath house.

Twin beaches sit either side of the Old Town, with shallow waters and family-friendly activities at West Beach. You can also rent banana boats, jets skis and pleasure boats or stroll the promenade and browse seaside souvenir shops. On East Beach, you’ll find a quiet coastline stretching from River Aras to the Mediterranean Sea, dotted with archaeological ruins.

Just a few minutes’ drive outside Side brings you to Manavgat Waterfall, which has cool waters for swimming and wooded picnic spots. Stay into the evening to see the falls illuminated by thousands of fairy lights.

Back in town, lively waterfront bars and restaurants soak up harbour vistas. British-style pubs line the promenade, offering karaoke and game nights, while the town centre as chic cocktail clubs and wine bars.

Getting around

Taxis, shuttles and buses offer transportation around Side or you can hop aboard a “dolmus” minibus. Rental cars are available in the city or at Antalya Airport, about 70 kilometres away.
