Things to do in Łańcut
Lancut Castle emerged unscathed after World War II and is one of the most beautiful aristocratic palaces in Poland. It’s set in magnificent, English-style gardens and features enormous rooms filled with gleaming antiques and sparkling chandeliers. Guided tours take you into various chambers, including the Zodiac Room inspired by astrological symbols.
Find more Baroque buildings in the beautifully landscaped gardens. Admire colourful blooms in the Orchid House and walk through the Orangery filled with lush palms. Look for colourful parrots perched in the canopy. Don’t miss the collection of vintage carriages on display in the Coach House.
Discover the town’s rich Jewish heritage at Lancut Synagogue. Behind the modest exterior is a handsome Baroque temple decorated with colourful frescoes and Rococo decor. The entire building is beautifully restored and remains one of the most impressive synagogues in Poland.
The flower-filled Market Square is the beating heart of Lancut. Historic tenement houses frame the tree-shaded square, which features grassy lawns and benches. Cafes, bars and restaurants overlook the plaza and serve Polish favourites like “pierogi” dumplings topped with fried onions and sour cream. Wash down your meal with a glass of locally distilled Polish vodka.
Getting around Łańcut
Lancut is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The town is in Subcarpathia Province, a two-hour drive from Krakow and Lublin. Trains run between Krakow and Lancut in 1.5 hours. Lancut Train Station is a 25-minute drive from the town centre or five minutes by taxi. John Paul II Kraków-Balice International Airport is a two-hour drive away.
