Officially known as the Eastern States Exposition, The Big E is one of the largest agricultural fairs in the United States. It showcases agricultural communities from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, and has taken place each autumn since 1916.
See life-size replicas of the six New England statehouses at the Avenue of States, with exhibits inside showcasing the local heritage, gastronomy and traditions of each state. Sample lobster from Maine and Vermont’s famous Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, as well as Big E Cream Puffs, which have become the fair’s signature snack.
Experience life in New England during the 19th century at the Storrowton Village and watch the impressive equestrian events in the Eastern States Coliseum. A range of livestock and farm animals are on show throughout the 17 days of The Big E, while big-name bands and musicians perform in the Xfinity Arena each weekend.
Getting around West Springfield
The Big E is a five-minute drive from central Springfield and easily accessed by buses that stop near the entrance. It’s around 30 minutes’ drive from Bradley International Airport in neighbouring Connecticut.
