Founded in 1463 on the slopes of Mount Guimba, Pylypets is a local treasure in southwestern Ukraine. The cosy ski resort is off the beaten path, with a handful of groomed trails, a nearby eco resort and an unmissable waterfall.
Things to do in Pylypets'
Pylypets welcomes most of its visitors during winter when its five pistes are covered in fresh powder. There are only 400 metres of vertical skiing or snowboarding, but this local winter haunt gives you plenty of room to enjoy seemingly untouched terrain. Great for both beginners and intermediate skiers or snowboarders, Pylypets features rewarding red and blue runs beginning at an altitude of 1,160 metres.
The ski resort is serviced by three modern gondolas, along with chair lifts and T-bars. Take time out from skiing to enjoy a meal or drink at one of the food outlets or bars, where you’ll find local and international cuisine served with beer, wine and liquor. Experienced instructors can help the greenest of skiers, while more experienced powder hounds can venture off-piste for greater challenges.
Regardless of whether you’re visiting during winter or summer, a trek to the Shypit waterfall is always worth the effort. This six-kilometre alpine trail takes you to the 14-metre-high waterfall, which feeds into the Pylypets River.
A holiday in Pylypets is a great addition to your visit to Lviv, one of the most popular cities in Ukraine only 200 kilometres away. Be sure to spend some time admiring its blend of Polish and Austro-Hungarian architecture, such as St George’s Cathedral, Lviv High Castle and Boyim Chapel. Synevir National Park is also worth a visit for its picturesque lake surrounded by artistic sculptures.
