Where to stay in Lanzarote

About Lanzarote

Lanzarote boasts an otherworldly beauty, from its volcanic landscape and black lava fields to its cactus gardens and underwater art museum. One of the most unique island destinations in the world, Lanzarote pairs its tranquil atmosphere with secluded coves and adventure experiences.

Things to do

Those who love getting lost in the wonders of nature should head to Timanfaya National Park, where you can trek along rich volcanic soils in various vibrant colours. Although there is only one active volcano, the surface temperature of the Mountains of Fire at the parks centre is around 100 degrees Celsius, so pouring water on the ground results in a geyser of steam.

Swap volcanoes for cacti in The Cactus Garden, which houses over 1,000 cactus species in a former quarry. You can wander through the garden before grabbing a drink or light bite at the on-site cafe. Finally, tick off Cueva de Los Verdes, a fascination lava tube with underground volcanic passageways, colourful caves and a natural concert hall where you can watch live music.

Are you visiting Lanzarote with the kids? Head to Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park to see sea lion shows and cowboy lasso demonstrations. You can also ride ponies, tour a gold mine and let the kids run wild in the splash zone. If you’re looking to cool off, visit AQUAPARK Costa Teguise, which features high-speed water slides, paintball courses, a go-kart track and on-site dining.

Keen scuba divers shouldn’t miss the one-of-a-kind Museo Atlántico, where you must dive 12 metres below the surface to see artificial reefs and numerous sculptures made by local artists. Find your own slice of paradise at Papagayo Beach, which boasts a landscape of white sand and turquoise water.

Getting around

Lanzarote is easily reached by flying into Lanzarote Airport, which is 20 minutes from the island’s main commercial centre. Car hire is one of the best ways to get around, along with taxis and public buses.
