Al Marjan Island is a year-round beach destination that offers an array of recreational activities, suitable for the entire family. Here you can go off-roading in the desert, play golf at the Al Hamra Golf Course and or join a jet skiing excursion.
Perfect the history enthusiasts, pay a visit to the nearby ghost town of Jazirat al-Hamra located just a 15-minute drive away. The town was once a flourishing fishing village, but thanks to the decline of the pearl industry, it was evacuated in the 1960s.
Consider yourself quite the adrenaline junkie? Take to the skies with the aviation club for an aerial view of Al Marjan Island and the surrounding Arabian Peninsula. If that sounds a little too adrenaline fueled for your taste, keep all wheels on the ground and go go-kart racing at Rrak Track, located 20 minutes north of Al Marjan Island.
Those in search of a souvenir can head to Manar Mall, located just 30 minutes north of the island for an afternoon of luxury boutique shopping.With over 120 shops, a six-screen cinema house and an extensive food court, there’s entertainment for everyone.
A visit to Al Marjan Island isn’t complete without devoting a day to the beach. Pack your books, sunscreen and swim trunks and head to the sands to soak up the city’s sunshine. Afterwards, head to one of the island’s many restaurants and enjoy traditional Emirati cuisine, which includes delicious curries, rice and fish dishes.
Getting around Al Marjan Island
After landing at Dubai International Airport, take an hour’s taxi ride north to Al Marjan Island. From here, the three coral islands are all walkable, but car hire is suggested when leaving the island or heading north to the shopping mall or race track.
