Landscape artists have been drawn to Ahrenshoop for more than 125 years, inspired by the wild and rugged coastal landscapes. The town is dotted with small museums and galleries where you can admire works by contemporary artists. Neue Kunsthaus is another gallery with a contemporary focus.
Housed in a traditional thatch-roof cottage, the Kunstkaten gallery recalls the town’s artistic heritage. Kunstmuseum occupies a striking modern building and showcases works by contemporary artists. Bunte Stube was founded in the 1920s and houses a small gallery and a gift store selling locally made jewellery, artwork and handicrafts.
Ahrenshoop is surrounded by scenic walking trails and cycling paths that showcase the beautiful Baltic landscapes. Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park is a short drive north of the town and features dramatic clifftop trails. A staircase leads down to Darsser Weststrand Beach, where you can relax on the sand and swim in the Baltic Sea.
Built in 1951, Schifferkirche is a maritime-inspired church. Light floods into the church through the floor-to-ceiling glass façade, while the interior feels like stepping into a ship’s hull and features a wood-panelled roof and rib vaulting.

Ahrenshoop is located on the Fischland-Darss-Zingst peninsula, a 45-minute drive from Rostock and 2.5 hours from Hamburg. The town is compact and easy to get around on foot while rental cars offer the freedom to explore at your own pace. Hamburg Airport is a three-hour drive away.
