About Isla Taborcillo

Taborcillo Island is a tropical paradise fringed by white-sand beaches, coconut palms and mango trees. The island is perched 40 kilometres off the coast of Panama City and is a sanctuary for local wildlife, including sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Bask on the picturesque beaches, swim in the Pacific Ocean and explore the remnants of an abandoned resort owned by iconic U.S. actor John Wayne.

Things to do in Isla Taborcillo

Taborcillo Island was once owned by iconic American actor, John Wayne. He built a Wild West-themed resort on the island, complete with an oceanfront bar and Caribbean-inspired restaurant. While the resort has been abandoned for the past few years, it’s fun to walk around the grounds and gardens.

The beaches on Taborcillo Island are stunning, with soft white sand and crystal-clear water. Relax in the sunshine and make a splash in the Pacific Ocean. Bring lunch and plenty of water, as there are no shops or restaurants on Taborcillo Island. Strong sea breezes make Taborcillo Island a popular destination for kite surfers.

Birders flock to Taborcillo Island to view colonies of yellow-crowned night herons, waders and migratory shorebirds. Watch for rainbow-coloured hummingbirds zipping around the flowers and fruit trees. There’s also a chance to spot three species of turtles, including critically endangered Hawksbills.

Getting around Isla Taborcillo
