About Nightcliff

Nightcliff is a prominent suburb located in the northern region of the city of Darwin, Australia. The district is directly adjacent to Casuarina Drive. The popular Nightcliff region boasts outdoor amenities, pristine coastline, as well as historic sites.

The most popular things to do in the Nightcliff region include cycling and walking along the path around the foreshore, exploring the jetty, and relaxing on the beach. Public outdoor offerings include ta swimming pool, multiple outdoor exercise stations, and two tennis courts. A unique addition to the coastal environment are the WWII sites lining the boardwalk. An additional allure to note is the Nightcliff market in Pavonia way, a weekly provision of food, crafts, massages, live music and drinks to visitors in a fun, upbeat environment.

Walking and cycling are the most popular forms of transit throughout the area. There are plenty of parking locations for personal vehicles along Casuarina Drive. The Darwin public bus network also routes to Nightcliff.

Like much of the Darwin area, the history of Nightcliff is rooted in the excursion of the HMS Beagle. Crew member John Lort Stokes had noted in a journal that when they first approached the respective area, they ran along the cliff line for quite some time and it was so dark they had difficulty landing and getting ashore.
