About Imola

Hugging the north bank of the Santerno River, Imola is a historically rich town home to the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari racing circuit. It’s considered the western gateway to the historical Romagna region and is home to one of the world’s most prestigious piano academies.

Things to do in Imola

One of Imola’s most prominent landmarks is the Rocca Sforzesca, an impressive castle built between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It is dominated by thick round towers and houses the Cinema d’Estate during the summer months. The Rocca Sforzesca also plays host to the International Piano Academy "Incontri col Maestro”, which was founded in 1989 by Franco Scala.

A short walk from the castle is Palazzo Tozzoni, an opulent residence constructed in the 18th century on a design by Domenico Trifogli. Its interior is adorned with period furnishings and centuries-old artwork, with many of its pieces created by Bolognese and Romagna artists. Highlights of the villa include the Rococo-style Alcove Rome and the Pope’s Living Room, which was named in honour of Pope Benedict XIV.

Inside Acque Minerali Park is a sculpture dedicated to Ayrton Senna, who lost his life while competing in the 1994 Imola San Marino Grand Prix. Three years later, a memorial was erected in front of the infamous Tamburello curve and has since become a pilgrimage destination for Senna fans. Take the time to explore the leafy trails and flower-filled beds of Acque Minerali Park, which is also home to two children’s playgrounds.
