About Daly City

Named after the California landowner and businessman, John Donald Daly, Daly City lies directly south of San Francisco. After the area was impacted by a major earthquake in 1906, Daly subdivided his property for the establishment of new homes for the refugees, which led to the creation of what would become Daly City.

Coincide your visit to Daly City with a show at the Cow Palace, an iconic indoor arena that originally opened in 1941. It once hosted the San Francisco Warriors in the NBA and concerts by the Beatles and now provides a home for the Grand National Rodeo and the Horse & Stock Show. Around the arena are several eateries where you can dine before or after your show, including Papa Ray’s Pizza and Golden Moon.

For a retail fix, head to the Serramonte Center, which is anchored by Macy’s, Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Centred around a light-filled courtyard, this cross-shaped shopping mall also provides a setting for the Daly City Farmers’ Market. To the south of the Serramonte Center is Gellert Park where you’ll find a children’s playground, tennis courts and sporting fields.

Stretching along the Pacific coast of Daly City is Mussel Rock Park, which is named after a sea stack located just offshore. You can stretch your legs along one of the rugged hiking trails or enjoy a refreshing swim at the sandy beaches while watching the paragliders launching themselves off the nearby headlands.
