Candidasa is the gem of Bali’s eastern coastline where ancient temples meet tropical rainforests and secluded coves. Home to the tranquil Lotus Lagoon, Candidasa is known for its rich culture, aromatic cuisine and spectacular dive sites.
Things to do
No trip to Candidasa is complete without witnessing Lempuyang Temple. Built high in the Lempuyang Mountains, Bali’s oldest and most sacred temple is reached only by a steep and challenging climb up 1,700 steps. The trek ascends through lush foliage and tranquil streams before rewarding hikers with panoramic views over Bali.
Relax on one of Candidasa’s beautiful beaches, such as Pantai Labuan Amok, which has striking black sand and a shallow coral reef perfect for snorkeling. Meanwhile, Pasir Putih mesmerises with its sweeping stretch of white sand and coconut palms. For a spectacular diving excursion, venture to the offshore islands of Biaha, Tepekong and Mimpang or the famous USAT Liberty Shipwreck.
If you’re looking to learn about Indonesia’s ancient Aga culture, visit the traditional Balinese village of Tenganan. Discover the rich traditions, ceremonies and rituals that the Aga people continue to live by today and purchase handwoven ikat textiles.
Fancy an active adventure? Candidasa is ideally situated to climb Bali’s tallest peak, Mount Agung. Towering over 3,100 metres above sea level, a sunrise trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and coastlines beyond. For a less strenuous day, visit Candidasa Lotus Lagoon and stroll around the vast body of water filled with waterlilies and fuchsia pink lotuses.
Candidasa is easily reached by car, taxi or bus and is located 1.5-hours from Ngurah Rai International Airport in Kuta. Regular buses run between Candidasa and Kuta, Sanur, Ubud and Padang. Once in Candidasa, transport options include local taxis and rental motorbikes.
