    Nice Stay

We stayed two nights at the Independent Hotel in Rome. Overall, the room was relatively spacious, very clean, and had nice amenities. The bed was comfortable, and it's clear that the hotel had recently been renovated. The view wasn't bad either higher floors would have been even better. We appreciated the location: the hotel is close to the Termini and within walking distance of many attractions. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and they spoke English very well. Although they did try to steer us to hotel owned restaurants a bit, and they took care of everything we needed right away. I especially enjoyed breakfast. Every day there were a good variety of fresh foods available including hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and more. The breakfast was much better than what you would get at an American hotel. The dining area is on the top floor of the hotel and offers nice views as well. We enjoyed starting the day each morning on top of the hotel with nice food and a view. There are some downsides. The elevator is extremely tiny and has been oddly retrofitted into a small space between the stairs. There are dumpsters sitting out on the street. The hotel isn't especially cheap although it was consistent with other hotels located in central Rome. Overall, though, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Independent and would recommend it to anyone spending time in Rome.

The location, the staff, the views, and the room are all excellent. I stayed for six nights, and found this to be excellent hotel in Rome. This one is a 5 - 10 minute walk from the door of your train in the Termini station, and slightly closer to the Termini metro station and a whole lot of buses including the one that goes to the Vatican. It is modern and very clean in what was once an older building much rebuilt. The roof terrace, adjacent to the breakfast room, affords views over the neighborhood including the Baths of Diocletian, spectacularly large. Breakfast offers just about anything you need, and the friendly waiters take special orders from a menu if you must have something not on display. Our room was perfectly clean, as was the modern bathroom with its glass-enclosed shower, good cosmetics, and heated towel rack. The decoration was modern and tasteful, and the curtains kept out outdoor light. There were enough plugs for our electronic needs, a refrigerator containing things that were free on the first night, and a table and two chairs, a couch, a large television screen, a closet, a safe, an electric kettle, a coffee maker, cups, napkins. There was good and abundant lighting. The hotel has a small fitness room, a small library with a supply of books in a few languages, and a computer for your use in getting boarding passes or local information. But perhaps the best thing about the hotel is the exceptional staff - efficient, multi-lingual, and personally delightful without being intrusive. Maria, Giorgia, Mauro, Valerio, John, and the breakfast staff including Fabrizio and Juan Carlos are probably the best hotel employees I've ever met, in over fifty years of travel in Europe. A couple of doors down is Diana's Place, owned by the same company. It's a restaurant/cafe/bar with very good food and another first class staff member, Bruno, who works there in the evenings. I warmly recommend the hotel and the restaurant to any traveler.
