About Redwood National and State Parks

An expansive collection of pristine old-growth forests, beaches, trails and grasslands on the Pacific coast of Northern California, Redwood National and State Parks is famous for its concentration of redwood and sequoia trees. It harbours one of the country’s most diverse ecosystems comprising flora, fauna, rivers, streams and temperate rainforests.

You can walk amongst the tallest trees in the world within 560 square kilometres of parklands spanning Redwood National Park, Jedediah Smith State Park, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks and the Del Norte Coast. Don’t miss a stroll through the Lady Bird Johnson Grove of redwood clusters, named after the former First Lady.

Around 329 kilometres of hiking trails crisscross the park system. Keep an eye out for Roosevelt elk as well as threatened species, such as Chinook salmon, the northern spotted owl and Steller’s sea lion. The Smith and Klamath rivers provide access to sports fishing for salmon and steelhead.

Getting There

The best way to reach Redwood National and State Parks is by car or tour bus. The drive is about six hours from San Francisco and San Francisco International Airport.
