Where to stay in Mahé

About Mahé

Fringed by boulder-dotted beaches and coral reefs that are teeming with life, Mahe is the largest and most populous island in Seychelles. It’s home to the friendly capital, Victoria, and a densely forested interior, with its mountain trails offering stunning views across the island’s picture-perfect setting.

Things to do in Mahé

Spend an afternoon exploring the atmospheric streets of Victoria, which is renowned for its vibrant markets and colourful Creole architecture. Admire the “Lorloz” clocktower (an exact replica of London’s Little Ben Clock) before wandering through the spice grove and miniature rainforest of the Victoria Botanical Gardens.

Head to Mahe’s north-west coast to relax on the idyllic beach of Beau Vallon, a curving stretch of sand backed by shady palm trees and evergreen takamakas. It’s a popular base for snorkelling and diving thanks to its crystal clear waters and coral reefs, while it also boasts an evening market where you can feast on authentic local curries and grilled seafood.

Once you’ve had enough of Mahe’s beautiful beaches, venture inland to Morne Seychellois National Park, which encompasses around 20% of the island. Its diverse habitats range from coastal mangrove forests to jungle-covered mountain peaks, including the 905-metre-high Morne Seychellois. Follow one of the hiking trails that lead to Morne Blanc or the Trois Freres cliffs, both of which offer panoramic views across the island.

Getting around Mahé

Victoria-Seychelles Airport is the main gateway to Mahe and lies 15 minutes’ drive south of the Seychelles capital, Victoria. Buses and taxis are both available for getting around the island, although having your own car is a more convenient way to explore. Bicycles can be rented for shorter trips and Victoria is compact enough to explore on foot.
