Located at 1,014 metres above sea level, Kleinarl is a picturesque holiday village surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Radstadt Tauern. It was once frequented by the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg as a hunting destination, with their former lodge transformed into a vicarage in the 18th century. Kleinarl forms part of the Flachauwinkl–Kleinarl ski area, which is popular during the winter months, while hikers and cyclists come to explore its alpine trails and lakes in the summer.
Things to do in Kleinarl
Hit the ski trails of Shuttleberg Flachauwinkl-Kleinarl, which offers downhill terrain ideal for beginners, intermediate and experienced snow enthusiasts. The Champion Shuttle chairlift will whisk you to the top of the runs and several groomed cross-country skiing trails. If you’re travelling with children, they can take advantage of the dedicated kids’ area while rail lines, half pipes and carving trails await in the terrain park.
Visiting in the summer months? Follow one of the hiking trails that lead through the surrounding mountains for spectacular views across Kleinarl. You can hike or drive south to the sparkling Jägersee before continuing along the trail that leads to the breathtakingly beautiful lake of Tappenkarsee.
E-bikes, mountain bikes and road bikes can all be rented in Kleinarl for exploring the region’s spectacular alpine terrain while a flying fox course traverses the Kesselfall Gorge. If you’re up for a challenge, you can test your skills on the high ropes course at Peilsteinpalfen, which offers superb views across the surrounding valley.

Kleinarl is just over an hour’s drive from Salzburg and Salzburg Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Having your own vehicle is the most convenient way of accessing Kleinarl and getting around the region.
