Things to do

Spend the day at Summerleaze Beach, which boasts a gentle sea pool for swimming and paddling. You can hire a beach hut or visit the nearby beaches for fishing, surfing, jet skiing and shelling. To explore Bude Canal, rent a rowboat or pedalo at the Wharf.

Rent crab pots and equipment from the tourist information centre, then drop your pots at Breakwater on Summerleaze Beach or the edge of Crooklets Beach. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife or book a guided geological tour.

Near the canal you’ll find Bude Castle and the Bude Heritage Centre, where you can learn about the region’s history and geology. Visit the on-site art gallery and cafe, then walk Planekeepers Path along the canal from Bute to Hobbacott. Stop to explore the centuries-old village of Stratton or hike the South West Coast Path.

Travelling with little ones? Head over to Bude Haven Recreation Park for crazy golf and table tennis or book an indoor squash court in winter. Top off your day by sampling Devon cream tea at small cafes along the waterfront.

Getting around

Buses and taxis offer transportation around Bude and you can rent traditional or electric bikes as well as off-roaders and hybrid all-terrain vehicles. Rental cars are available in Launceston or at Cornwall Airport Newquay, both under an hour away.
