We stayed on a B&B basis and the hotel is ideally situated on the beach but within very easy walking distance of the bars, restaurants and other facilities Santa Maria has to offer. Set in good-sized grounds, the Morabeza has several pools, plenty of sun loungers and never felt busy or crowded, though I'm sure the hotel was full throughout our stay. It was also blissfully quiet and largely devoid of piped music. Our room was a great size, well-appointed, kept spotlessly clean and had a very decent-sized bathroom with an effective shower and efficient hair dryer. WiFi was generally pretty reliable. Breakfast, although unvarying, was delicious, excellent fresh fruit and pastries, plus a few cold meats, cheeses and hot dishes. We only had a couple of other meals in the hotel and these were fine. The daily happy hour at La Tortue Bar was a lovely treat, and special thanks are due to Maria and her team for making these such an enjoyable experience, though in truth we found all of the Morabeza's staff to be friendly, efficient and keen to help. Our stay on Sal coincided with a spell of what was apparently unseasonably cool, grey and damp weather, and whilst this didn't stop us from getting out and about and doing stuff, it was a big plus to be staying somewhere as delightful as the Morabeza.
