This is a charming hotel and we love it. Ruth, the general manager/owner, is a sweetheart and a great cook. Each breakfast was gourmet and delicious. She also is a Nevada City native with lots of ideas of where to go and eat in town. The hotel is wonderful, a gold rush Queen Anne Victorian mansion. Our rooms overlooked Deer Creek and we left our windows open to listen to it at night and spent each evening sipping wine right next to the creek. The hotel grounds are beautiful and serene, and all of charming Nevada City is within a short walk from the hotel. The two best restaurants in town are practically across the street. Access to our room is only by the old servants staircase behind the kitchen, not the main staircase near the entry. Private but be aware the stairs are steep and narrow. Good sized with a very comfortable bed, large shower and a tiny television we didn't use anyways. We usually like to open a window for fresh air but the old, original windows do not open. Comes with the charm of an old house. Heat and AC are available and controllable within the room though. You will love your stay here.
