Beautiful facility; great location with historic shrines, subway, etc. within walking distance; nature walk behind the hotel. Couldn't get a room for 3 people.

The views are spectacular from the spacious hotel and adjoining balcony. The room is large even by American standards for a double. The service is excellent. The hotel can be reached by the hotel shuttle, which stops by a traffic island by the Group Bus departure area at the train station, or you can take the subway to the Keage stop and walk a block to the hotel. The shuttle runs every half hour but does not start until 8:15 in the morning from the hotel, so if you are taking an early train you can either pay for an expensive cab or take the subway. The breakfast, at 2800 yen, was more than we cared to pay. There aren't many places to buy breakfast things close to the hotel, so if you don't want to eat the hotel's pricey breakfast you should get your food in town before you return to the hotel. The check-in time is 2 PM, and it is very difficult to check in early, as at most Japanese hotels. You can leave your bags and walk to sites nearby or go back into town until the room is ready.

Good front desk service, limited service courtesy bus. Very old hotel in area we stayed. Ok Hotel but does not fit the standard set by other 4 or even 3 star hotels in Japan. It appears to be of average US 4 star standards. Breakfast Buffet just Ok. Need the Courtesy bus as it is a Cab ride from any where in the city unless you want 20-30 min walk. Bus ceases at 5pm. Around 11am time big queue for bus at hotel and next bus is always 30min later. The standard of rooms equates to US 3-4-star with very old fittings.

The main hotel what you expect from the Westin. However, here the hotel is one of the top society hotels in Kyoto so it is always interesting to see who is giving a geisha party or a wedding here. The real jewel is the Japanese wing built into the mountain side. It is one of the masterpieces of modern Japanese architeture in the traiditional style. The rooms and many of the views are all that you could ask of traditional Japan. Combine this will all the services and ammenities of Western-style hotel and you have a winning combination for those who might not feel ready to take the plunge into a tradtional inn but would like to experience something of traditional culture. It is a really great choice if your are traveling with someone who doesn't want to have a Japanese style room but you all want to be a the same hotel. You won't get the intimate personal style of service as you would at an inn but you also won't have to worry about the rules and restrictions either. The staff here was really interested in making our stay comfortable and seemed to be genuininely delighted that we enjoyed our Japanese style room.

Excellent amenities and level of service. Charging $8/day for internet. The hotel amenities were excellent and level of service faultless. The free shuttle bus that ran every 30 minutes and stopped at the bus and subway stations as well as the JR station made a good start for sightseeing within the city. Although we did not use, it the satellite concierge at the JR station was a nice touch. What let it down were the extras. We were charged $15 for rather average tea and scones for two and the internet, which budget hotels regularly throw in for free, cost about $8/day which is extortionate.

Very nice staff; very clean; very comfortable; help at station great. Very good location - have a shuttle bus that takes you to subway stops and station. Comfortable rooms (albeit a bit run down).

Great views, friendly and helpful staff, kid friendly. Lack of nightlife - the only bar open had a $9 cover charge and $16 drinks. Top class hotel. They had a kid room with a pool table (although the walls are too close to the table), video games, and a play set for younger kids. The hotel provides free drinks for the children too. The adults are not forgotten either. There are 8 restaurants, balconies with great views, nice decor, and Internet access. I would definitely return to the Westin Miyako.
