Seemsa a brand new and good value for the money. Very comfortable and clean and excellent staff provides great support on traveling information for tourist. Excellent location for subway and bus stations also near by some attractions point, I will be back this hotel for my next trip.

Loved the Monterey. Very clean and modern feel. Location is great. Can walk into Gion. Good cafe/restaurant with terrace around the corner. (Turn left out of the hotel, then take your first left on the corner with Starbucks). Good service. Quality bed. Good lighting in rooms. Only bad point is the annoying key-holder/light switch thing in the room.

When I arrived, I was pleased to find that the property was very clean. My room was a little small, but still very comfortable and well suited to Western travelers. The bed was a good size. The free-standing closet was very small - maybe only half the depth and width more commonly found. The free internet access was very easy to use and very fast. The bathroom was small with no counter space. The freestanding sink sits right next to the shower (which was convenient for shaving). The shower tub was large and comfortable. I was surprised to find that the contoured top of the tub channels the spray from the shower around the tub and onto the floor. This is an odd design, but there is a groove in the floor that channels this runoff into a floor drain so there is no need to be concerned. The staff was very professional and extremely helpful at all times. The ladies at the concierge desk deserve special mention. I don't normally take advantage of concierge services, but I relied on them heavily this trip and I was never disappointed. The breakfast buffet, which was included in the price of my room, was very impressive. It consisted of a good selection of both Western and Japanese breakfast foods. The food was always fresh and plentiful. Overall, I would rate this hotel very high for its class.

Our room was very clean and comfortable with extremely friendly and accommodating staff. The room was tiny but that's quite common for hotel rooms in Japan. We didn't eat in any of the hotel restaurants because the hotel's location was close to lots of other foods options. The subway and bus lines are only two blocks away so travelling around Kyoto from the hotel is quite easy. I was happy to see that the hotel was only 3 blocks away from the Kyoto Manga Museum (if that's also you're kind of thing). No complaints; a great experience at the hotel!

Beautiful hotel with amazing staff, my tour bus left without me one morning but the hotel concierge, even though he had no affiliation the tour group company, went out of his way to contact them and told me how to catch them up and got them to wait for me! About 20-25 mins walk from the huge amazing Kyoto station but even if you don't like walking, this walk is lovely to and from the hotel and the station as you walk past a VERY old temple which apparently is one of the largest wooden structures in the world! It is still in use and you can go in and pray (or just look around). I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel and fully intend to stay here again on my next trip to Kyoto!

We enjoyed our stay and were particularly pleased with the clean room and bathroom. The lobby is a bit kitschy and somewhat odd but I found the staff to be extremely helpful in providing information on bus routes, restaurants etc. I highly recommend this hotel.

Good value for the money. The property has pleasantly quirky decor, and is spotless and well-maintained. The English-speaking concierge, front desk, and bell staff are all very courteous and helpful. The rooms are well-furnished and large by Japanese standards, and the bathrooms are functional for both Japanese and Western users. The Spa on the 13th (top) floor of the hotel is beautiful and well worth the extra fee.

The hotel is perfectly located, especially for tourists who seek to enjoy good food, shopping and sight-seeing. The only two comments I would have are that the signboard is too small and the location map for guest who goes to the hotel by subway is not clear and difficult to follow. If the subway exit number is indicated in the map, my wife and I would not have difficulty in looking for the hotel. The staffs are courteous and very helpful.

We found the hotel is a good location. Only minutes to the subway. It was also walking distance to the market which is a must visit, the river, shops and restaurants. The staff were friendly and took the time to show us to our room and explain things to us. The bar, however, closes early. Would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is in a great location, halfway between the station and the Imperial Palace. For adventure i walked to the palace and Nijo castle, and saw alot of Kyoto. I also walked to the Hein shrine. It is about 3 miles to palace, 4 to Nijo, and 5 to Hein? it is a good walk but you can see so much along the tiny sidestreets, the small shops and markets are excellent. No tour would take you down these streets. Also, when at the hotel, walk out and take a right, first intersection turn left and cross the street, walk down the street and you will find the shirne for Flower Arranging. Bring bread crumbs for the pigeons, they will land all over you, even your head for the food. it is so much fun, found this place by accident and the birds are so funny. It was one of the highlights of the trip. At the hotel ask for a map and it is the shrine across the street from the hotel. you wont see it until you are on top of it. The hotel is VERY clean, the staff is by far the best i have encountered. Much better hotel then the one i stayed at in Tokyo. The room is soptless each time and you dont have to worry about your valuables. The room is large (stayed in signel and in japan sngles are very small) Room was very comfortable and the only hotel in Japan where the tub was big enough to take a bath in. I will definatley stay at this hotel again, and when i travel again to Japan i will look for their chain in the other cities.

A very pleasant hotel with beautiful and sobre deco inside. Bedrooms are spacious and cozy. Not too far from main places in Kyoto as Gion and Town center. Top service discreet and effective. There is a spa but we didn't had the time to go in it. We also didn't had dinner there.

The Monterey seemed brand new. Very comfortable and clean and most of the staff spoke English. Excellent location right between 2 major subway stations on one of Kyotos main streets. Remarkeably quiet though and within walking distance of the major attractions and restaurants.

This hotel is beatuiful with an amazing lobby and charming decor. I had read reviews prior to booking and some said that the rooms were small. I did not find this to be true - they are just standard sized. Included were slippers, pyjamas, fantastic toiletries, torches etc in fact you wouldn't even need to bring anything just a change of clothes. Loved the hot spring bath and sky lounge on the top floor. It was also very easy to find and well located near good restaurants, shopping and cultural sites.

A lovely hotel at a keen price. This felt like a luxury hotel, but not at a luxury price. We booked room only - the breakfast in the hotel was expensive, but there were cafes very nearby. The staff were extremely attentive and welcoming. The double room was small, but typical of Japanese hotels. We will stay here again if we ever go back to Kyoto.

Loved this hotel! The rooms were larger than expected for Japan, and the staff were amazingly attentive and helpful. Most impressed, will stay there again.

The only cons, the hotel is located quite a far walk from the JR Kyoto station and quite pricey. The pros - everything else... although the bathroom looks like it was built from a kit.. but great nonetheless

The location of this hotel is excellent, an easy walk to most places you would want to visit (covered markets, shops, restaurants, nightlife) with the exception of the many temples, which may require a bus/subway journey. The hotel was excellent, delivering top quality recently rennovated rooms and numerous and helpful english speaking staff. The hot baths/spa costs $15 but there is a deal on multiple visits, and it's very nicely done. We were asked to upgrade our room at check-in to a superior room, if we wanted to have a baby crib in the room, but since we were staying 5 nights, the extra $9 per night was hardly significantm and a pleasure to have the extra space.
