The Okura is absolutely breathtaking. The staff is unbelievable - incredibly professional but at the same time as friendly as possible. They even bow when you get on and off the elevator. The restaurants in the hotel are great, and our room was beautiful - complete with origami paper cranes that the staff had folded and placed on our coffee table when we checked in. Centrally located to the Gion, subway, and Kawaramaci Dori for great shopping. I'd definitely stay here again.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The proximity to the sub station was so helpful. There was a bus stop right out front. I would definitely stay there again.

It is beautifully designed and maintained. The rooms are lovely. The location is good -- centrally located, near one of the main shopping streets. As with most four-star hotels, the restaurants are overpriced -- about $30 for breakfast, when you can get something much cheaper a few blocks away. Also, I was dismayed to discover that in order to use the fitness facilities there is a $30 charge. But otherwise, I was very satisfied with the property.

Our stay at Kyoto Hotel Okura may be the best hotel experience either of us has ever had. When we got in the cab from Kyoto station, the driver asked if we had been there before. I wasn't sure why, but I found out shortly. Getting out of the cab, I reached for the trunk to get our luggage, the driver waved me away and gestured for me to wait. Almost immediately two porters came over to greet us and unload our bags. They took us to the front desk and then led us to our room. It was huge. The window stretched from wall to wall and had a view of the entire city and the mountains on either side of it. The best part, entirely unquantifiable, was the service. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. The staff was everywhere and always there with a greeting and a smile.
