Where to stay in Râşnov

About Râşnov

Surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, Rasnov is intersected by the River Ghimbasel, which meanders past a medieval fortress and 16th-century murals reflecting centuries of art, culture and religion. Visitors also come to Rasnov for hiking, cave exploration and horseback riding in nearby mountains and gorges.

Things to do

Rasnov Fortress was built at least 500 years ago by Teutonic knights. Stroll the galleys and watchtowers and keep an eye out for tournaments and sword-fighting demonstrations. You can also try archery or pick up souvenirs and art from dozens of craft stalls.

Pop into the Evangelical Church to see ancient Gothic architecture, then explore Valea Cetatii Cave. You’ll find a trail to an underground cave system within the Valea Cetatii Nature Preserve. Make your way to a cluster of lakes surrounding Cathedral Hall to see sparkling reflections of arches and calcite formations.

Thrill-seeking travellers can visit Rasnoavei Gorge for bungee jumping, rappelling and ATV excursions. You can also take guided horseback rides at Diana Riding Center. If visiting in winter, take a cable car up for skiing or snowboarding at Postavarul.

Travelling with the family? Spend an afternoon at Dino Parc, an amusement centre with enormous dinosaur statues and a 9D theatre. Enjoy dinner at La Promenada, a casual family-friendly eatery with playgrounds, soothing piano music and traditional Romanian dishes.

Getting around

Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest is about 145 kilometres away. You can rent a car at the airport or in the city of Brasov, just 15 kilometres from Rasnov. Buses and taxis provide transportation around the city and its surrounds.
