The sun-drenched An Thoi Islands sit just off the southern tip of Phu Quoc and are hugely popular with snorkelers and divers. Also known as Pineapple Island, Hon Thom is the largest island in the group. In addition to a pristine beach, it's surrounded by rainbow coral reefs teeming with marine life.

Most of Phu Quoc's resorts line Long Beach, a golden stretch of sand on the island's south-west coast. Whether you want to recline on a sun lounger, indulge in a massage or sip on a sunset cocktail, Long Beach is Phu Quoc's liveliest strip.

Duong Dong is the island's largest town and is a popular hub for budget travellers. Its bustling streets are lined with food stalls, family-run restaurants and convenience stores. For a glimpse at the island's local economy, head down to the bustling fishing harbour and fish market.

If you want to sample the local cuisine, eat your way through the Dinh Cau Night Market. From freshly grilled Vietnamese seafood to tasty vegetarian meals, the market is packed full of sizzling street-food stalls.

Getting around

Most travellers arrive by boat, with the fast ferry from Ha Tien taking around 90 minutes. Phu Quoc International Airport also offers daily flights from Can Tho, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Scooters and bicycles can be hired from most hotels and are a great way to get around the island.
