A planned township on the Arabian Sea, Navi Mumbai is quickly emerging as one of India’s most vibrant communities. Also known as New Bombay, the beautiful beachside city is home to some great off-the-beaten-track sights and attractions. Wonders Park is eternally popular with families, serving up plenty of thrills, spills and unique exhibits.
For a breath of fresh air, the lush Kharghar Hills are a fantastic place to spend a few hours. Navi Mumbai also boasts its very own Central Park, an urban oasis in the heart of the city. For mango lovers, a tour and tasting session at the fabulous Belapur Mango Garden is a must.
The closest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International, with the drive to Navi Mumbai taking around one hour. Two train lines run through the city, offering connections to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Navi Mumbai’s main station is Panvel, though there are a handful of others dotted around the city.
It may be a relatively new city, but Navi Mumbai also serves up its fair share of culture. The towering Nerul Balaji Temple is a tribute to Vishnu and offers sweeping views over Palm Beach Road. For a fascinating glimpse at Mumbai’s colourful, visiting Belapur Fort is highly recommended. It was built by the Siddis of Janjira and has been ruled by the Portuguese, the Marathas and the British over the centuries.
