Are you visiting Gran Canaria with the kids in tow? Take them to see the dolphin shows and butterfly house at Palmitos Park, which also has manicured subtropical gardens and orchids. Learning and entertainment come naturally at the Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología, where you can interact with hands-on exhibits, watch 3D movies and see a replica space station.

Those interested in the island’s ancient history should visit the Painted Cave in Galdar, where you can see centuries-old artefacts and a cave with Indigenous wall paintings. Afterwards, head to El Museo Canario, which houses ancient artefacts pertaining to the island’s Indigenous people, including mummified remains and tools.

Getting around

Gran Canaria is reached by flying into Gran Canaria Airport or catching a ferry to one of two passenger terminals. A comprehensive bus network services the island, but it’s easier to rent a car and drive yourself.
