    Wonderful Stay Overall

This hotel have a good location in Kaohsiung and can provide nice view on the top floor. The service and facilities is good. they event have a shopping mall on the ground level. The staff were super helpful, accommodating, had great recommendations, and were really funny. They had regular events that made it easy to meet people, so lovely and helpful and we felt really welcome and really went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and to give us an experience. the breakfast have a looot of option of oriental and western cuisine and the food is very good for only NTD580. The restaurant at the top floor so you can enjoy the view while having breakfast. The superior room that I stay in also have a mini coffee machine. Wonderful stay overall.

    A Fine Place To Stay

I spent one night at the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel as part of a round-the-island tour of Taiwan. The hotel is in the middle of bustling Kaohsiung, and is attached to the fancy Hanshin department store. The hotel's decor is deliberately old-fashioned, with marble floors and huge chandeliers in the lobby. But everything is efficient and up-to-date in this classically-styled facility. Free WiFi extends throughout the hotel. The bed and pillow were very comfortable (with a choice of pillows), and I got my best night's sleep since arriving in Taiwan. I also enjoyed the extra plush towels. The breakfast buffet on the hotel's top floor is huge, with all manner of Chinese, Japanese and western offerings. Quality was very good, with my favorite item being the big crusty baguettes; a couple of slices of that good bread slathered with butter was all I needed to be happy. The hotel has an outdoor pool, which looked nice though I did not make use of it. I'm told that they charge for use of the sauna, which seems a bit cheap to me. There are many restaurants in the hotel, and I'm sure there must be dozens more in the neighborhood. If you don't feel like doing a fancy meal, there is a food court on level B-3 of the Hanshin department store with a number of local food offerings (plus McDonald's), there's also a very nice grocery store, which was fun to browse. All-in-all, the Grand Hi-Lai seems a top-notch place to stay while visiting Kaohsiung.
