I had been to the Drake earlier for tea, so I was excited to stay there for our visit. There lobby is quite opulent and definately old time Chicago. In our rooms we found that the bedding was plush and mattresses extremely comfortable. The 1990's cabinet tv did seem a bit dated since most hotels have upgraded to LCD or plasmas but since we didn't spend much time in our room this was not a huge issue. We booked a family room--2 queen beds and 2 full bathrooms. This was well worth the price since it allowed my husband and son to shower while I was getting ready. We easily saved 30 minutes each morning getting out the door. If you want history stay here. If you want cool, sleek, upscale and modern book another hotel.

The hotel is beautiful, very clean and the staff is awesome! The room is quite small though - a lot smaller than lower end hotels. There are 10 floors and the elevators take FOREVER. The food is pricey but very tasty. Overall it's a great hotel and I would stay again.

We've stayed at the Drake Hotel 5 times before, and we really like the history and beauty of the hotel, but some things have changed this time, and we weren't exactly happy about it. They sent us to a room which wasn't ready at all which was very disturbing, and they weren't very apologetic about it, or even offer us an upgrade. They used to give you a free bottle of water in your room on the first day, now they want a WHOPPING $7.00 for ONE bottle! Hard to believe, and even given this economy today, it's way out of line. We like the rooms, the location, the hotel itself, and the room service is adequate. We had noisy neighbors this time, though, who partied until 1:30 a.m., and we could hear it all through the walls. There also seemed to be a lot of people how don't know how to close a door quietly, and there was a lot of loud slamming of doors at all hours of the morning and night. It wasn't the most pleasant stay we had, but all in all, we'll probably be back, if not for anything else but our yearly tradition.

Staff was excellent once they figured out we weren't going to fit in the room. Initial room was too small. The Drake was excellent. My wife had a problem at first because the room was too small (only one bed and we had family of 5). Anyway, the drake allowed us to upgrade to a junior suite which was fantastic, price wasn't too bad, kids received a complimentary limo ride to the Shed Aquarium. Limo driver was a Cubs fan to match my son's love. Concierge was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Drake for Valentine's Day weekend. We reserved our room two weeks ahead of time, and upon check-in we were asked if we wanted one or two beds. Obviously, one bed would be just fine and we stated that. Unfortunately, we got placed in a room with two TWIN beds! We were on the 8th floor, which was newly renovated. The room itself was nice and clean, but the view left much to be desired. Also, one major problem I had with this hotel was the noise level. Not only could you hear everything outside but you hear every door close, people talking in the hallway, and staff. I was up all night because of the noise in the room next door - so bad that you heard them going to the bathroom! The bed was uncomfortable, and they only provided two bath towels. (I know we had two twin beds, but come on...) The bathroom was big enough, but there were hairs in the shower. Also, the lighting is not very good. Internet usage is quite expensive as well. Bring your own snacks and bottled water, because we couldn't find a single vending machine! The doormen were friendly, and the location couldn't be better! All this being said, if you don't mind small beds or noise it's a nice place to stay. I just felt that it was highly overpriced for what we received!

This was my second time staying at the Drake Hotel and will not be my last. The 1st time I stayed at the Drake was for a wedding that was actually at the Drake. This time I flew in from Cleveland to Propose to the love of my life. The only Hotel I would consider in Chicago is the Drake. Great atmosphere and location! You can't go wrong.

Loved everything about this hotel, its staff, fitness center, classic rooms, location, restaurants. Fabulous experience. This is definitely rates as one of my favorite hotels to stay in Chicago. We visit Chicago 3 - 4 times a year and would love to return to The Drake. Just loved their staff. They make the stay so much fun. Love the fitness center; only wish that they had a convenient travel computer in the lobby with all the airlines like the Inter-continental Hotel to make on-line check-in easier to do. This is one area the Inter-continental surpasses The Drake, other than that we were very happy with The Drake Hotel.

I think I have developed a personal love affair with this beautiful old dame of a hotel, This is the second time we stayed there while viisting Chicago. This time for a wedding. Our room was spacious for our family of 4 including two teens. It had two twin murphy beds (pull down from the wall) and a luxuriously appointed king bed. We entered the room to find a gift of chocolates and bottle of Evian from the manager welcoming us back! (our last visit was several years ago.) The location is supurb ( surrounded by the best shopping and resturants and with views of Lake Michigan) but the best thing about the Drake is the fine details right down to the settee in the elevator. If you appreciate a turndown service complete with candies on your pillow each night you will get it at the Drake. I felt pampered in all ways being a guest there and will always stay there when I am in the windy city!

I loved the location and how close it was to the beach and shopping and just general location! I wanted a room with a view and they did not oblige. Very nostalgic and beautiful! Loved the location and ambiance!

This was our first trip to Chicago. We loved the Drake and the location of the Drake. Being able to look out over the park and Lake Michigan was beautiful. The shopping for my wife was fantastic and my checking acct is considerably lighter due to same. We didn't eat in any of the restaurants in the hotel because we wanted to taste Chicago so to speak. Rosebuds steak house which is just a few steps down from the Drake was an excellent steak house.

As a seasoned international traveler for business and a slightly less seasoned traveler for vacations, this is the worst hotel for the money I have ever stayed in. The location was great and the staff quite helpful. The room was a joke for the price. My 2 day stay in the heart of Chicago was far from enjoyable. Upon arrival, the refrigerator was broken. A call was put in for a replacement refrigerator that was delivered the next day. It finally got cold by the day I left. I and my friend had to use a hotel garbage can filled with ice to keep anything cold. Every food item we brought back had to be thrown out, since the replacement refrigerator never cooled enough. Beautiful location, but I cannot recommend anyone to stay there.

Location. Parking. Not for the younger crowd, but certainly a romantic getaway for older couples.

This hotel definitley has old world charm and the quality of service too often a thing of the past that goes with it. From the doorman to the room service staff all were courteous and more than helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the quality linens made a real difference.Personal touches like a concierge that charged my mobile phone while I was at dinner, make this a place I'll be happy to come back to.

The large room with a very comfortable king size bed. The 49.00 parking fee each day. The hotel has an old world type atmosphere with modern amenities. Brightly lit spacious hall ways. My room was large with a king bed that I did not want to get out of. The room had a flat screen TV and mini bar, also some window shades that completely darken end the room keeping the sunlight out for extra sleep. All of this was more than I expected, for what I paid for a two day stay.

We have stayed at the Drke many times. The room was adequate and a bargain for CHicago. CLose to shopping and the Magnificent Mile. The staff was particularly helpful. We walked right in and our room was ready. The lobby was nicely decorated in Christmas decor.

Cleanliness and extraordinary customer service. Would recommend it to friends and family for local weekend getaway with spouse.
