I had the same experience as others mentioned about being switched from the Penguin to the President. That was a little frustrating. But I think you get what you pay for. This isn't a top of the line hotel and I thought it was pretty decent. I was expecting a lot worse upon opening up the hotel room door. I was very surprised to see a clean room that was inviting. The bathroom didn't have a mirror and was very small. But there was a large floor to ceiling mirror in the room to compensate. There isn't much customer service, but who stays in the hotel all day anyways when you're in Miami. I was only disappointed in the fact that I didn't get to stay on Ocean Dr, because that was the whole idea in booking at the Penguin. I had to settle for the President which is located on Collins.

DONT STAY HERE!!!! Upon check in at The Penguin where we had a reservation they immediatley told us we were now moved to The President behind them. As we questioned them they are checking in people after us and giving a room there at The Penguin. They stated "oh well". When checking in at The President staff was extremely rude and has no idea why we are moved either. It took them 3 hrs to get a room ready and once checked in they were SOOOOO horrible! Sheets were our only cover. Bed was hard and thin, cheap frame . Bathroom was very small and damaged. Couldnt get much rest due to being uncomfortable and noise from workers. Overall room was filthy. Walls were very thin can hear EVERYTHING that goes on in next room and in halls. The pool was very small and filthy, trash floating in it as well as not cleaned, ever. I was finally able to speak to a manager about my disappointment. Had to fight for some kind of compesation. She stated she would give us a 50 % discount, yet to see it applied to our card! .There were also many others in same situation, some were even w/o water in their rooms! . They were still very well under renovation, I dont believe they can save that place. Need to start with staff!!! We will never stay at either hotel again!

Having never visited this hotel before, I based my decision to stay here on the location and the lovely bar and rooftop sun-deck shown in the photos. The bar, however, is no longer in use and there is no access to the upper floors! The person who checked us in remarked that the hotel is "being renovated" though there are no signs of any rennovation underway. Evidently that is meant to be a catch-all excuse for the disappointment travellers will invariably feel arriving at this place. The room we were put in was simply the worst I have ever stayed in (and I am not prone to exaggerate). An intense smell of mildew / body odor hung over the room - so much so that I had difficulty going to sleep! Never mind the paint peeling off the window frames and loose bathroom tiles. The next morning we asked for a different room which was only slightly less smelly. The President Hotel is owned by the Penguin Hotel (they are back-to-back) and for any nighttime service you must walk around the block to speak with them. I was glad I'd not pre-booked more than just those two nights... yuck. Better luck trying someplace else.

This place is terrible - DO NOT STAY HERE! We were supposed to stay for 4 nights but checked out after one. The first room we had was dirty, smelled funny and had tape holding the shower together. The second room was straighted, but not in my definiation "clean". There were burns on the carpet and a general musty odor to the whole building. The beds are uncomfortable and very thin. They feel more like boxsprings than mattresses. The walls are also VERY thin - so you get to here everthing going on next door. The restaurant closed at 6 pm (so no dinner) and the advertised lounge never opened, the 24-hour front desk service was closed and we had to walk to a nearby hotel owned by the same management company when we wanted to change rooms again! We complained the next day and had to fight to get the unused nights refunded! Do not stay here! I've never written a review before, but this place was so bad I had to warn others!

The hotel needs renovation really badly! The first thing you notice when you walk in is TERRIBLE smell - I mean it's really bad! Then you notice how everything is DIRTY (carpet even has dark ugly stains on it; bathroom is filthy; sheets smell). There was construction work going on at the hotel so, unless you sleep really well and drilling etc does not bother you, you will not be able to sleep past 7 AM. The walls are so thin that you can hear EVER WORD and movement of the people in the next room (including sneezing and other bodily functions - you get the picture!). When you take a shower, you need to make sure you do it really quickly because hot water does not last long at all. My clothes smelled horrible just because they were left in a room that smells so bad! And please keep in mind that this review comes from a person who is perfectly OK staying at low-budget hotels (I don't ever complain about Motel 6, for example) and does not believe in spending too much money on a hotel room where you only sleep and take a shower anyway. But believe me, when I felt so horribly grossed out and nausious taking a shower and getting into bed, I decided that it's so much worth it to pay a little more just to feel like a human.
